Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) about the Annual Showcase
Why are there two separate showcase performances?
Our school has grown over the last several years and our annual showcase performance has become longer in length. This
spring we will have two separate performances in one day: a Junior Showcase for Pre-School 3 through Grade 2 levels in the
morning and a Senior Showcase for Grade 3 through Advanced 2 levels in the afternoon. With this arrangement we will have
more tickets available for friends and family to attend; this has been a common request from parents that more tickets are
needed. This also makes it possible for the younger performers to leave earlier rather than wait backstage for a three-hour
show.
By having two showcase performances, our costs have increased. We must rent the theater for a longer period of time, hire the
theater technical staff for each performance, and pay our teachers to work backstage to supervise students for both shows.
How many tickets will I receive if my child is in the showcase?
For those students who have paid the Flat Fee, four (4) showcase tickets will be issued to each family, at a discounted price of
$70, to cover the cost of the theater rental. This fee is only paid once by each family. If two siblings are enrolled, the second
sibling will have a reduction of $70 for the Showcase Fee portion. Only four (4) discounted price showcase tickets will be
issued per family.
When the Showcase tickets become available, an email notification will be sent to parents. Students enrolled in Pre-School 3
through Grade 2 levels will receive four (4) tickets for the Junior Showcase, and students enrolled in Grade 3 through Advanced
2 will receive four (4) tickets for the Senior Showcase unless otherwise requested by the parents. For example, parents may
request two tickets for the Junior Showcase and two tickets for the Senior Showcase rather than four tickets for one
performance.
Can I buy extra tickets? Do I need a ticket for each showcase if I would like to see both?
Any extra tickets for the Junior Showcase or Senior Showcase will be available on a first come-first serve basis at the following
prices: $20 for parents of enrolled students or $25 for the public. The policy of the theater at Ohlone College is that everyone
who enters the theater must have a ticket. For example, a performer from the Junior Showcase who wishes to see the Senior
Showcase must purchase a ticket for the Senior Showcase.
How can I volunteer to help and receive extra tickets?
We always need parent volunteers backstage to help with our younger performers. For those parents interested in helping back
stage during the full dress rehearsal AND the showcase on the performance date, they will receive an additional four (4) tickets.
All volunteers must be approved by Rachel Tan and must be female only as it will involve changing the children’s costumes and
taking them to the restroom and water fountain.
Why can't I take photos or videotape during the showcase performance or the dress rehearsal?
This is the Ohlone College theater policy; it is also standard theater policy. The policy is necessary for the safety of the
performers. Flashes and video lights can startle and temporary blind performers which can lead to accidents or injuries.
Performers who are distracted by parents filming or taking photos can cause accidents and injuries to occur. The policy is also
necessary to prevent those who take photos or who videotape from ruining the enjoyment of the performance for others (video
displays, photo flashes and camera clicks are distracting; people darting out in the aisle and blocking the view for other
audience members; etc.). In addition, having parents at rehearsals makes the rehearsal times even _longer_ (parents distract
the students, parents interrupt and ask the teacher if they can get individual and group shots on stage, etc.).
