Dress Code
Rachel’s Ballet has a required uniform for the classroom and for the Royal Academy of
Dance
(RAD) examination.  Colors correlate with grade levels (see tables below for
specific uniforms).  Small items such as handkerchiefs or pillows may also need to be
purchased for character dances.  The instructor will inform students if these are
necessary.

The student's appearance in class must be neat and clean at all times.  Students are
expected to observe good personal hygiene habits.

Students need to come to class with their hair properly groomed.  Hair should be tightly
secured and styled away from the face.  For females, the hair should be in a neat bun.

Dancewear is to be kept in good repair and laundered on a regular basis.

Jackets, sweat pants/shirts and plastic pants/shorts may not be worn during any portion
of the class, as this makes it difficult to observe posture and teach correct body
placement .  Tight fitting leg-warmers are permitted at the barre only.

No heavy jewelry.

Freed Character Shoes (LOW HEEL, #F01-315 or #F-CCH1)
Grade 1 students onward will need Low Heel Character Shoes
in black canvas.  These shoes can be purchased at the
following online stores:

1.  Dance Supplies, Etc., Inc.  http://www.dancesupply.com
- Customer Service Phone 1-800-90-DANCE.  On their web site,
click on “Character Shoes”, and select “F-CCH1 - Low Heel
Character Shoe”.

- Women's Shoe Sizes:  While Freed of London recommends
ordering 2.5 sizes smaller than your regular US women's shoe
size, this supplier has a different recommendation.  If you want
the adult size shoes tight, go with 2.5 sizes down.  Most parents
want a little room for their children's feet to grow, so this
company usually recommends you only go 2 sizes down.

- Children's Shoe Sizes:  The children's sizes (the sizes listed
with the C) are about the same as street shoe size (not 2.5
sizes down) so order the usual size your child wears in street
shoes.

2.  Freed of London, http://www.freedusa.com/home.html
- Customer Service Phone at 1-866-MY-FREED (1-866-693-
7333) ext. 232 or Email at WebOrders@FreedUSA.com

- Women’s Shoe Sizes:  Click on “Jazz”, “Shoes”, “Ladies”,
“Character Shoe (Low Heel)”.
The site recommends ordering 2.5 sizes smaller than your U.S.
Women’s Shoe Size.  It lists the equivalent U.S. Women’s Shoe
Sizes to assist you in ordering.

- Children's Shoe Sizes:  Click on “Jazz”, “Shoes”, “Ladies”, then
near the bottom right of the screen,  click on “Page 2” or click on
the scroll right Arrow to get to Page 2.  Click on “Character Shoe
Girls” which is a Low Heel shoe.  Order the usual size your child
wears in street shoes.

Attendance will be taken at each class and tardies noted. It is extremely important
that students arrive on time for class and allow enough time beforehand to get
ready for class. Students arriving late cannot warm up properly. Late arrival also
interrupts the class in progress. Therefore, we ask that if your child is going to be
at least ten minutes late, she/he should make up the class on another day or stay
and watch only. This is done in their best interest.

Children may not be left unattended in the waiting area. We ask that parents
accompany their child to and from class. If parents leave during the class, we ask
that they return before the class is dismissed. Child safety is of the highest
importance
NOTE: All of the students belongings should be taken into the studio area with
them during class. The waiting area is unattended and
Rachel's Ballet is not
responsible for any losses while at the studio.

An atmosphere of mutual respect is necessary in any learning environment. Students should not be talking or distracted while the
teacher is instructing. If anyone is interfering with the progress of the class, they will be given a warning. A second warning will result
in a 5 minute time out. If a third warning is needed, the child will be asked to sit and watch the remainder of the class time.

It is not possible to meet the demands of everyone with regard to scheduling of classes. Once the schedule is printed, it cannot be
changed. Teachers are assigned to teach classes where their training and talents can best be used for the welfare of the students.
Placement of teachers is at the discretion of the director only. Rachel’s core group of teachers, are well trained in the
Royal Academy
of Dance
syllabus. Please check our web site faculty page, Rachel's Ballet - Faculty , for more information on our teachers.

Teachers are not available during class time for parent/teacher discussions. If you would like to talk with a teacher about your child’s
progress, please leave your name and phone number with the teacher, and you will be contacted within 24 hours. You are also
welcome to observe your child’s progress by watching a class.

Please check your e-mail at least weekly.   Announcements and important general scheduling information will be sent via e-mail and
those affecting all
Rachel's Ballet students will also be posted on the Rachel's Ballet web site NEWS page. E-mail information for
specific classes or groups will not necessarily be posted.

It is our goal that ballet be a wonderful experience and hope that by reviewing this information with you beforehand, the school year
will be enjoyable and provide a positive experience for both you and your child. Thank you for your support and cooperation.
